Pepsi Can Hands - Banner Ads

Banner build for Proximity Toronto. The pop up effect couldn't be done in Flash at the time so it was manipulated in photoshop using a warp feature. I think even if you did it as a vector and you warped it inside of flash you'd have a higher file size than if you did it as a raster image. Reasoning is because you would have a lot of vector points when you deal with outlined text objects in Flash.

MOH Bottles - Banner Ads

A good example of how to use particles to create a random like pill drop effect. No code was used in the creation of this particle system. I try to avoid using code in Flash as much as possible only when code is required should it be used is my motto. I find people use code excessively in Flash just because you can and this leads to overly complicated files difficult to edit. This was done for Proximity Toronto.

Gillette Accellerate Weather - Banner Ads

Done for Proximity Toronto. These banner ads needed to be optimized for 30kb specs. To do that you need to know your vectoring very well as you will have to vectorize all the raster assets in Flash.

Scotia iTrade Golf EN - Banner Ads

Done for Capital C Toronto. These banner ads are always fun to do. When a drawing comes to life it's so much fun to watch in Flash.

Scotia iTrade Golf FR & CH - Banner Ads

Produced for CapitalC Toronto. French and chinese banner ad versions. I'm not sure if I talked about this before but chinese characters are really hard to optimize. Especially, if you're on a PC for some reason the file size just jacks up because each character is unique. I always select _sans or some system default to bring down the file size. It's always a chore but you learn lots about how different languages influence on file size.

HP Stuff EN - Banner Ads

Another version done for Proximity Toronto. I would agree to using code here because when you're dealing with that many objects to animate on the timeline would be ridiculous in Flash.

HP Balloons EN - Banner Ads

Another banner build for Proximity Toronto. This banner build was not originally built by me but I was handling resizing and building up different sizes for this ad. One thing that is a bugger with working with this type of banner build is when it's pure code. It's very difficult to resize the ad quickly vs working with timeline based animation in Flash.

Lincoln - Banner Ads

Not all Ad Agencies are created equally. This is certainly true for Wunderman Toronto. This client stiffed me completely on this project. I've tried contacting them for payment but it's a dead end since they cycle PMs so frequently. It's one of the reasons I'm so hesitant to work with Wunderman Toronto ever again.

MEDT Ontario EN - Banner Ads

The images provided was really poor. I had to optimize it where ever possible on this banner build. I believe this was also for Proximity Toronto.

Scotia iTrade Light Bulb - Banner Ads

One of the first sets of Scotia iTrade banner ads. To get the "Charlie Brown" line effect all you need to do is create 3 keyframes and distort 2 of them inside of Flash. Use the distort tool that gives you the 9 tangets and work the corners for one frame and the mid points for the other frame. This is the same trick I used for the Hormel banner ads.

Gillette Accellerate Dull Blades - Banner Ads

This banner ad was done for Proximity Toronto. The idea behind these banner ads was to give the appearance that as your blade dull they quality of the shave also dulls. So remember always replace your blades every so often to make sure you have the best quality of shave.

Dove Truth Concept EN - Banner Ads

Series of banner ads for Dove. The expandable versions allow you to interact with the buttons. The only complication with this ad was the copy was never nailed down. This caused a lot of revisions to the overall animation.

RBC Egg - Banner Ads

This RBC banner ad build was complicated. The artwork needed to be optimized. The original dev said you could just run it through an auto vector program and it'll be optimized for flash. That's a big NO NO in my book when it comes to optimization. If you do that it converts the raster into many vertex points. You could have 10000 tangent points and each point takes up memory that could exceed that of a raster image. The proper way is to redo the vector tracing it and then matching up the color and sometimes gradient to be identical. Use the vector tracing trick to do this.

Inspirational Wall Painting

I love the colour and imagery on the wall. It's exactly what I would like to do if I didn't have conservative constraints.

Quaker Game - Banner Ads

Interactive banner ad where the user can shoot Quaker chips into the woman's mouth. Part of the Quaker commercial campaign where a woman eats some Quaker chips and out comes butterflies. They are actually really good. Now that I think about it I should go get some.

I think we changed it so the butterflies come out behind the woman instead of from the mouth. I mentioned to the client it reminded me of the Candyman where bees come out of his mouth.

M&M Merrier - Expandable Banner Ads

Another build that came after the standard banner ad build. Video was added in the expandable portion. Rollover and watch the video. Another great banner build for Proximity Toronto.

M&M Merrier - Banner Ads

An example how you can bring life to a banner ad using particles. This was for Proximity Toronto.

Gillette - Rubicks Cube

A banner build I took over for Proximity Toronto. The banner ad was to simulate a rubicks cube.

I kept the original animation and just re-optimized it and adjusted the timing to fit the 15 sec IAB standard.
